IchiBan Chief Instructor
I first started karate in 1974 when I joined Steve Arneil’s Kyokushinkai dojo in Crawley. I moved over to Shotokan Karate in 1976 when Jim Logan, a teacher at my school, gave a fantastic kata and bunkai demonstration and I was totally hooked. Valerie and I now run the dojo in Tilgate Forest, Crawley having taken it over in the mid-nineties and I am the only original student still training after 40 years.
I am very proud to have kept the club going for all of this time and of clubs success over the years as we have produced many students that have achieved their Dan grades right up to 5th Dan and some that have gone on to open their own clubs. I am now looking forward to teaching a new generation and watching their development and success.
I consider myself extremely fortunate and privileged to have trained with Enoeda Sensei and other great Japanese Sensei at courses held in Crystal Palace in the 70’s and 80’s and I have great memories of watching our Senior Instructors compete and win at the National Championship held there.
Whilst I have competed at Regional and National level my real passion is training and learning from my Senior Instructors and my peers within the KUGB of which there is a great strength and depth.
